This is my last year of school and I am finally getting into what I consider the "meat" of my major.  These are the classes that I have been waiting for.  I have trudged through all the meaningless freshman and sophomore classes and the semi-challenging junior classes.  I am now ready to take on my senior level classes.

For those of you that don't know me, I am majoring in sports management.  I hope to be lucky enough to, one day, be an athletic director at a college/university.  If I don't do that, I would like to be in the front office for a professional team, hence the name "The GM."

My schedule seems fairly "easy" right now, but they all do at the beginning.  I can tell already which classes I will like and the classes that I will really like.  Yes, I do like school and going to class, although I have been known to miss one or two.

The class that I can tell is going to be my favorite is my "History in Sports" class.  I had the same professor for my "Legal Issues In Sports" class and he made a seemingly boring subject, very fun.  As I have mentioned before, he has his own radio show on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm - 12pm on 43 different stations in Indiana.  You can check out his website:  www.indianasportstalk.com

Not only does he have his own radio show, he also has been the Basketball Coach at Franklin College and still has the highest winning percentage in school history.  He was also the coach of the men's team at IUPUI and the Athletic Director at the sametime.  He was the winningest coach there until last year, when Ron Hunter broke his record.  On top of that, he was also in charge of the Horizon League men's basketball tournament.  That is Butler's conference for those that are unaware

He makes class fun, because he talks to the class and individuals like actual people and not as a robot. He also cusses in class, A LOT, which is fun because it makes me feel like a real person is having a conversation with me and not someone that is too stiff for their own good.

He gave us some advice the other night in class and I think they are great tidbits of knowledge that I want to share with the rest of you:

*  Dream Big...he adds to that....Follow the Dream

*  Rolling Stones...he gave  us some music lyrics to go along with it, but it means...Revise your dreams as needed

*  Find a Mentor...someone to show you the ropes and also remember...It's not what you know, but who you know

*  Network, Network, Network

*  Knowledge is Power....and leverage he added

*  Trust Yourself...don't be afraid to go after what you want, because nobody else is going to do it for you

*  Golden Rule...no explanation needed

*  Instant Karma...what goes around comes around

*  Debt Destroys...try your hardest to stay out of it

*  Love Your Family...this is the big one for him...they are your support system

*  Honesty...if you don't know, say so...people respect that more

He said we would get our money's worth for the class in the first session and I think that I have.  The rest is just a bonus the rest of the semester.  More to come later!
