I don't have much to cheer about right now as an Oakland A's fan. Yes, I am excited that we have won four in a row, but that only brings us to two games under .500 and 11.5 games out of first place. There is, however, a first year player that I do enjoy watching no matter the score of the game. This player is Travis Buck.A former Arizona State Sun Devil, Buck has made his first year in "The Big Show" a very productive one. Although he has spent some time on the DL because of a few injuries, he has managed to stay in Oakland from opening day. While his stats aren't as sexy as some other rookies, he has done the things asked of him every game and has managed to hit .292 going into tonight's game against the White Sox. With 81 hits in 81 games, he has shown that he has the patience and plate presence that the team is looking for. With his hitting abilities, Buck has earned the role of being the lead-off hitter in the lineup.
While his offense is nice, Buck is just as much fun to watch on defense. He has a non-stop aggressiveness in the outfield that makes some difficult plays look routine and the others he turns into Web-Gems.
Buck fits in perfectly with the attitude and demeanor of the team and is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Even though my team is sucking right now, I know that when I watch one of their games, I can be sure that Travis Buck will make something entertaining before the end of the game. If you get a chance to watch him play, don't pass up the opportunity.
