After this past weekend, I stated that Tim Tebow and Colt Brennan should be the top two candidates for the Heisman.  I thought a little more about that and I changed around my order.  I think the Heisman should go to the player that:

  • Is most important to their team's success.  Where would the team be without this player?
  • Puts up the numbers.  What are they doing statistically?
  • Is a leader, on or off the field.  Would you want them to represent your school?

With those criteria, here is my list:

  1. Darren McFadden -  Junior running back for Arkansas.  He's an absolute stud and THE Arkansas offense.  1,725 yards rushing, 164 yards receiving, 123 yards passing, and 20 total touchdowns.  Tied the SEC record for rushing yards in a game, with 321 against South Carolina.  Nine games over 100 yards rushing, with five of those being at least 150 yards.
  2. Chase Daniel - Senior quarterback for the Mizzouri Tigers.  With a win against Oklahoma this weekend, Mizzou will be in the Championship game.  3,951 yards passing, 70.5% completion rate, 258 rushing yards, 36 total touchdowns.  8 games of 300 passing yards or more.  2 of those were 400 yards or more.  Has thrown for at least 3 touchdowns in 7 games this season.
  3. Tim Tebow - Sophomore quarterback for Florida.  Where would this team be without him?  He is should win another championship next year.  3132 yards passing, 29 passing touchdowns, 838 rushing yards, 22 rushing touchdowns, 68.5% completion rate.  Six games with 3 passing touchdowns or more, seven games with 2 or more rushing touchdowns, including 5 against South Carolina.
  4. Colt Brennan - Senior quarterback for Hawaii.  Helped lead his team to an 11-0 record so far, with a chance to stay undefeated against Washington this weekend.  3732 yards passing, 41 total touchdowns, 69.9% completion rate.  Didn't play in three games because of injuries.
  5. Todd Reesing - Sophomore quarterback for Kansas.  Led the most improbable team to within one game of the Big 12 Championship.  3259 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns.  203 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns.  Five games of 300 yards passing or more.  Six games with three passing touchdowns or more.  Threw six touchdowns during the dismantling of Nebraska.

On the outside looking in:

Andre Woodson, Pat White, Ray Rice, Sam Bradford, Matt Ryan, Cullen Harper, Jimmy Clausen (just kidding), Mike Hart, Steve Slaton

I'm watching the LSU/Arkansas game last weekend and Arkansas needed a big first down. Who do they hand the ball off to? Some dude named Dixon or something, while McFadden sat on the sidelines. No Heisman.

Reesing has no arm. He bounced more throws to his receivers than the kids I watched in the HS state finals....

Tebow or bust.

Your NCAAB rankings widget is pretty awesome, by the way.
