This isn't about sports, but rather something I've started doing lately. I work around a lot of people that are coming and going and most are on their way to a class, meeting, or on their way home. Since we live in a high speed world, most of these people are on their cell phones while coming in and out of the building. I've started listening in on the phone calls. Most are boring, full of business talk. So, I decided to try it out while in public. I'll listen to what they say, and then I'll guess at what the other person is saying on the other end. Here are a few examples of what I've come up with so far.
Setting the scene - video store - group of three girls, one of which is on the phone, while the other two stand around.
Girl 1: Hey, we are at Blockbuster, anything you want to see?
My guess: Blockbuster, where at?
G1: Over by the mall.
MG: Did you go home or something?
G1: What are you talking about? I live in Illinois
MG: I know, but you are at Blockbuster
G1: There is more than one Blockbuster you know. They are all over the country!
Girl 1 then hangs up the phone and says to Girl 2 and Girl 3 "She thought that Blockbuster was only in Illinois". I quickly walked away because I started to laugh, but I didn't want to give away the fact that I was listening in.
Setting the scene - school - I'm sitting in the class waiting for it to start. A girl is on the phone talking abnormally loud, I had to listen.
Loud Girl: NO SHIT?! Are you serious?
My guess: I'm totally serious, for real.
LG: So did he give it to her?
MG: Oh yeah, he gave it to her good. (I tried to make it a porno scene)
LG: So did she make him get checked out?
* At this point, I quit guessing because I pretty much figured out that the person on the other end slept with somebody that was dirty and they then became dirty as well. I left the room because all of the sex education images from basic training quickly ran through my head and I started to think about the story they told of how "The Clap" got its name.
Setting the scene - Walmart dvd section - One guy on his Bluetooth phone looking through the TV series dvds.
Guy: So what are we having for dinner?
My guess: I guess chinese
Guy: Ya, chinese sounds good, what are you gonna get?
MG: I was thinking chicken and broccoli
Guy: Chicken and broccoli, what's in that?
MG: Are you kidding? It says it in the name...chicken AND broccoli
Guy: Oh, so it has broccoli in it then?
MG: click......dial tone
He actually kept talking, but after his last statement I would have hung up on him. So, with that, I decided to grab my movies and head to the checkout.
Some people would probably take offense at me listening to their phone calls, but if that is the case, don't be on your damn phone in public. There are certain times and or places that people should or should not use their phones. Being around me is not that time.
