JJ-
Thank you. I think that trades and drafting are the most entertaining part of the league.
Nice compilation. Once you take out the rookie contracts and stuff, it becomes clear there aren't many expiring contracts of note. A big expiring contract is a good asset (see Marbury's contract next year); this year's list of veterans with expiring contracts of any size seems pretty slim: Juwan Howard, Sam Cassell, Mikki Moore, Antawn Jamison. Very slim.
Don't forget Theo Ratliff and Troy Hudson. Those two are both injured and if they are involved in a trade, they will most likely be waived immediately. Ratliff is on the books for 11mil this season.
It's fun to watch the trades before the deadline... your dog/gimp/loser for our dog/gimp/loser.
Believe it or not, one of the ANALysts on ESPN yesterday came up with the idea that the Lakers should call Chris Webber since Bynum is injured. He had to be joking.
Who of the GMs around the league do you think has the most negotiating power as the deadline approaches?
I would go with Chris Mullin and John Paxson. The Warriors and Bulls have the most talent to deal, but Paxson has shown that he is unwilling to deal and Mullin might not need to. I would say Pritchard of Portland also has a ton of leverage. He has as many as 22 players on his team after next summers draft, so he could trade for future picks and just keep an incredible cycle of players rolling through there for years to come. I think he has earned Executive of the Year for the first half of the season hands down.
I was actually brainstorming that idea of Webber to the Lakers a few days ago. I think he could be a solid fit in that triangle offense...with the passing skills of Odom and Webber, that team would be fun to watch. They are better with Bynum in the long run though.
Kwame Brown is a HUGE expiring contract, $9M.
I think he's the most-likely to be moved. The Lakers will probably give him a shot to see if he can fill in, at least partially, for Bynum, then look to move him.
I don't think Ratliff goes anywhere, or at least he shouldn't. The Wolves need the cap space more than they need $11.5M in bad contracts back. Of course, this means McHale is probably working the phones like a mad man trying to move him.
Although Webber was a great player for the Kings, as a Sixers fan, I have a hard time seeing him as anything more than a malingerer that sucked an enormous amount of money out of my team. It's hard to imagine his gimpy knees and attitude helping out the Lakers.

Great work, GM, great info. for the fans all around the league.
Bring on the trades!
