georgia.jpgI figured since I only really care about this one BCS Bowl game, I would go ahead and blog it out.

Hawaii is trying to remain the only I-A team to be undefeated this season.

Georgia is 10-2 and they are no slouch.  They could very well be in the National Championship game.

The pre-game crew is made up of Chris Rose (Best Damn Sports Show), Jimmy Johnson, and some guy that looks like Ebenezer Scrooge.  I think it is Fran Tarkenton, but I'm not 100% sure.

A couple cool little pre-game stories about Colt Brennan and Knowshon Moreno.  Also, a little showcase of the two school's bands.

Let's get this game going!!  I hate waiting.

First Quarter:

Hawaii takes the opening possession of the game and before they can get a snap off, they get a delay of game and a false start penalty.  Team speed is going to be a big factor in this one.  Pressure from the defense on the first two drop backs.  Three and out...took a whole minute!

Georgia's first possesion is more productive.  After another penalty on Hawaii on the punt, Georgia gets their own false start and then pick up a first down on a swing pass.  The running game is going to be a big factor in this game.  Thomas Brown runs for a first down on 3rd and 7 and then Moreno breaks one outside for a 17 yard touch down run.  Score:  7-0 Georgia

Hawaii's second possession has featured their version of the "run game" which consists of bubble screens and slants.  Colt Brennan has scrambled a few times and took a pretty big shot on one of them.  Don't wanna see that too much more this evening.  A stupid penalty after the play pushes Hawaii back and they have to settle for a field goal.  Score:  7-3 Georgia

Georgia goes back to the run and Thomas Brown picks up 30 yards on two runs.  Hawaii had held them to a 3rd and 9 and then give up a screen up the middle and down to the 12 yard line.  Moreno pushes his way up the middle for the remaining 12 yards and the score.  Score:  14-3 Georgia

Second Quarter:

Hawaii has a three and out...they really need to try something deep just to lighten up the pressure.  Now they need a defensive stop or this game could get ugly in a hurry.

Well, Hawaii got the defensive pressure this time, but Georgia still converted a 52 yard field goal.  Score 17-3 Georgia

Alrighty...give Georgia the ball right back with an interception.  The pass wasn't great and the corner broke on the ball in time.  OUTSTANDING!

Turnovers hurt...the Bulldogs capitalize on the interception and Sean Bailey makes a nice grab for the score.  Score 24-3 Georgia

Hawaii trying to get something going.  Jason Rivers makes a catch and a nice move, but gets JACKED UP and is now out of the game...for how long, I don't know.  ANOTHER PENALTY, nice!  Brennan gets absolutely gobbled up and fumbles the ball.  I immediately get an instant message from Hot Tub that says "UH = done."  I'm still holding out hope.

Hawaii gets a stop this time and get the ball back.  They need a score to finish off the half to have a shot at this one.  But, a punt is the outcome.

Finally a Georgia punt and a fruitless effort at getting a shot down the field...going into half down 21 points.
uhmascot.JPGThird Quarter:

Georgia starts out with the ball and Hawaii gets another defensive stop.  Maybe they have settled down finally.  We will see on their offensive possession.

Another interception thrown...either the communication was mixed up or that was Brennan's Jeff George imitation.

Hawaii forces an interception on a tipped Matt Stafford pass.  They need to get something going immediately!

More of the same....no pass protection...almost another interception...Brennan hits Jason Rivers in the face with the ball...sack, fumble, touchdown Georgia....Brennan looks dead, but he got up.  Score 31-3 Georgia

Looks like Brennan has finally gotten tired of getting drilled and is just throwing the ball away immediately.  The offensive tackles are just getting blown up every play.  The pocket is non-existent.  Brennan is 17 or 27 for 153 yards right now.  I'd really like to see him get some kind of protection before this game is over, just so the rest of the country can see what this offense is capable of.  But, Georgia is just too quick.  The SEC probably has the fastest teams from the top of the conference on to the bottom.  Hawaii gets forced into another three and out, but Georgia roughs Brennan...dumb play...15 yards for Hawaii and a first down.  Since the penalty, Hawaii has put together a string of successful plays, but are still 35 yards away from the end zone.  And the result is another interception.

Now the commentators are on Stafford's nuts.  Best in the country?  That's funny.  Thomas Brown finally gets the jump over the top for the score.  Score 38-3 Georgia  Safe to say, the coffin has been nailed shut and the dirt has been dumped on the casket.

Hawaii's kickoff team has gotten a workout and they have performed quite well.  Just can't do much with the ball after that!  Mark Richt challenges the spot of the ball and somehow Hawaii gets a reception taken away.  Is that even possible?  Well, the third quarter ends with the score still 38-3 and I think I am heading to bed.  I have a long day ahead of me.  I have to go to "new student orientation" since I transfered schools.  Makes no sense because I am a SENIOR.  I think it is just another way for the school to squeeze another "fee" out of the students pockets.
