Most of you know O.J. Mayo as the leader of the USC Trojans and one of a handful of freshman that will bolt for the NBA in next season's draft, but do you know about his freshman running mate Davon Jefferson?

Davon Jefferson is a 6'8 forward from Lynwood, California.  He is just one of seven freshman on the USC team this season.  However, he is one of the best freshman in the Pac-10 not named Mayo, Love, or Bayless.  Jefferson averages 12.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1 block per game, second on the team in each of those categories.  He also shoots 58.6% from the floor, which is outstanding for any level of competition.

The video below gives you a little glimpse of Jefferson's explosiveness.  You might also note the score of that game.  Jefferson led USC with 25 points and 9 rebounds in the win over UCLA.  Jefferson has a few highlight videos showcasing his leaping ability.

I know that there isn't much attention given to the teams out West due to the time differences with the East, but USC is a fun team to watch, and Davon Jefferson is a big part of that.  Expect to hear a lot more from him in the future.

He caught my eye earlier in the season when they played San Diego and it was his first game back. I have his player card on ESPN bookmarked:

Negatives: Needs to work on his ball handling. No deep range on his jump shot. Basketball IQ is questioned by some scouts. Two years older than most NCAA freshmen.

Summary: Jefferson is an intriguing prospect who is starting to live up to the hype he's had for the past several years. His combination of size, athleticism and scoring ability make him one of the best small forward prospects in the draft and a likely first rounder.

From the 4 or 5 games I've seen him play, he sometimes gets ahead of himself...going to fast. I assume that is just part of getting used to a higher level of competition.
