joneal03.jpgWell, the Pacers decided to pass on making any deadline deals.  I'm actually a bit bummed out about it.  I saw a few trade scenarios, although I don't know how true they were.

One scenario was Jermaine O'Neal and Jamal Tinsley to the Knicks for Stephon Marbury, David Lee, and Malik Rose.  I'd take this trade.  Marbury has his flaws, but he is a solid producer and David Lee is a great hustle player.  I'd do it to get out of Tinsley's contract.  Marbury is off the books after next season as well.

The next scenario I saw involved acquiring Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry from the Grizzlies for nothing basically.

The other two options I saw were to trade JO to New Jersey for Vince Carter or to trade JO to Golden State for Al Harrington, Mike Pietrus, and filler.  Larry Bird just seems to love to trade for Al Harrington!

Of all the opportunities on the table, no deals were made.  This isn't good at all.  The Pacers were too greedy in what they wanted in return for JO.  Now, they will get nothing.  He can opt of out his contract at the end of the season and Indiana will have zero to show for it.  Although, they would be out from under his contract.

At the end of the day, I would rather have seen a deal done, instead of just sitting and doing nothing.

Would you have been happy if it was the Pacers in the Cleveland deal, sending maybe O'Neal and Dunleavy or Murphy?

I wouldn't have minded getting Hughes and Gooden back for JO.

Trading within the division is a tough call though.

One of the trades I said Indiana should have proposed a couple weeks ago, was to send JO to Seattle for Kurt Thomas and Wally Szczerbiak...we could have parlayed Thomas into a pick and then either kept Wally or sent him elsewhere.
