Yesterday was an interesting day on the college basketball front. Some teams are holding out hope that other bubble teams lose, while some had their own fate in their hands.
Syracuse was one of the teams that had that control. They managed to come out on fire and had Villanova on the ropes early, but they were not able to sustain their lead and Villanova won the game 82-63. Syracuse needed to win at least the game yesterday. They are now headed for the NIT. Villanova has a chance to play their way into the tournament today as they play Georgetown.
Another team on the bubble won their game last night. Arizona, coming into the PAC-10 tournament as a 7 seed, took on 10 seed Oregon State. It wasn't much of a game, as Arizona lead the game 59-21 at the half. The final score was 87-56. Arizona will take on Stanford tonight at 11:30. If they win that game, that should put Arizona in for sure.
A couple teams that are waiting right now are Virginia Commonwealth and Illinois State. Neither managed to win their conference tournament, so they have to wait for other bubble teams to either lose, or hope that all the top seeds win the conference tourneys. VCU and Illinois State don't need teams like UTEP or Houston to win the Conference USA tourney. They can also not afford for a school like Mississippi or fellow bubble school, Florida, to win the SEC tourney.
The Mountain West Tournament could provide some high intensity and mass confusion as well. BYU is the only lock for the Big Dance right now, but UNLV is a bubble team and New Mexico could cause some trouble. If BYU does not win the MWC and UNLV makes a run the championship, they should be in. This conference could possibly get three teams in and definitely burst some more bubbles.
