With all of the conference tournaments underway now, some teams feeling the pressure needed to perform big time. Some did, some did not.
Teams that lost: Arizona, Dayton, Villanova, UAB, Houston, Oregon, Baylor, Arizona State, Florida, New Mexico, Pacific, Mississippi, Maryland, and UMass
Breakdown: UAB and Houston have to hope that Memphis wins the C-USA tourney and then pray that the selection committee have mercy on their programs to get in. I think UAB is headed to the NIT after losing to Tulsa. Arizona, Oregon, and Arizona State lost tough games in the PAC10 tourney yesterday. I still think Arizona is in, especially with Oregon and Arizona State losing. New Mexico finished at 24-8 on the season, but losing in OT to Utah didn't help their cause any. Dayton and UMass will have to sweat it out to see if the selection committee will allow them in. I can see one of those two getting in, but not both, especially since Saint Joseph's is playing better ball right now.
Teams that won: Western Michigan, Kent State, Akron, New Mexico State, UNLV, Charlotte, Nevada, Utah State, San Diego State, Miami (FL), Minnesota and Saint Joseph's
Breakdown: The best three MAC schools are still alive and have to like watching the other bubble teams lose. Akron plays Western Michigan today, so this could be an elimination game. The rest of the teams on this list can only continue to help themselves out by winning.
If I had to decide on three schools that lost, I would go with UAB, Arizona, and New Mexico.
If I had to decide on three schools that won, I would go with Miami (FL), Saint Joseph's and Utah State.
