The way the Eastern Conference playoff "race" is going, Indiana could end up as the eighth seed. Last night they "improved" their position by beating the Seattle Supersonics 114-107. I did not watch the game because I was wrapped up in the IUPUI/Oral Roberts game and then the Butler/Cleveland State game.
Since I didn't watch the game, I am just assuming the game was closely contested throughout by looking at the box score. Neither team really blew the other out in any quarter, with the Pacers winning the first quarter by 7 points being the biggest margin at the end of any quarter.
Indiana was lead in scoring by Mike Dunleavy with 32 points and Danny Granger with 23 points. The bench only came through with 20 points, but David Harrison played some tough defense, providing 6 blocked shots in 20 minutes. Did I just type that David Harrison played tough defense? Seattle was lead by their dynamic duo of rookies Jeff Green (15 points) and Kevin Durant (27 points). Durant is now shooting 49% for the month of March and it appears that maybe he is learning what a smart shot is in the NBA. Better late than never I suppose.
Speaking of shooting percentages, Mike Dunleavy is having a career year shooting. He is shooting at 48% for the year and at 40% from three-point range. Dunleavy has also set a career high in free throw percentage at 83.6%. With his improved shooting, he is second on the team in scoring with an average of 18.2 points per game.
Indiana is now 25-39 and is just 1 1/2 games out of the last playoff spot. They also hold the 9th worst record in the NBA, going by winning percentage. Their upcoming games are Friday at Dallas, Saturday at Orlando, and then back to Indianapolis for a Monday night game against the New York Knicks. I'll be satisfied with a win against the Knicks, as no team should lose to them. I have come to peace with the possibility of having to watch the Pacers get into the lottery. I still don't like losing though.
