eveland1.jpgOver the weekend, Oakland won two of three games against the Cleveland Indians.

Friday's opener featured Justin Duchscherer's first start in four plus seasons.  The Indians had Paul Byrd on the mound.  Duchscherer was given a 1-0 lead after two innings of play and was able to make it into the sixth inning before giving up a run and being pulled due to a strained biceps.  Duchscherer finished with 6 strikeouts, while only giving up 4 hits and 2 walks before leaving.  He will have an MRI done this week to see what the course of action will be for his arm.

On offense, the A's had 10 hits, including Ryan Sweeney's 4-for-4 day.  Daric Barton finished 2-4 and seems to have found his swing.  Travis Buck remained hitless on the season, going 0-4.  He shouldn't be in the leadoff spot right now.

On Saturday, Oakland continued hitting the ball well and won the game 6-1.  The game also featured the season debut of Dana Eveland, who was acquired in the Dan Haren trade.  Eveland was very effective in his 7 innings of work.  He finished the day giving up 1 run on 6 hits, and struck-out 7.

On offense, the first seven hitters in the order had at least one hit.  Mark Ellis, Daric Barton, and Emil Brown had multiple hits on the day.  Ellis had a solo home run and a two-run single, while Barton needed just a home run to complete the cycle.

The Indians wanted to escape Oakland on getaway day with at least one win.  They managed to do that with a 2-1 victory.  Cliff Lee handled the Oakland bats and shut them for 6 2/3 innings, only giving up 4 hits.  Joe Blanton fell to 0-2 on the season in his third start already.  Oakland is running a four man rotation right now.  Things could get a bit hairy if another pitcher gets hurt.

Travis Buck remained hitless on the season after another 0-for-3 day.  He is now 0-for-21 on the season and has just 1 rbi.

Oakland will travel to Toronto for a three game series that starts tomorrow.  The Jays are fresh off a series sweep of the Red Sox.  I was just looking at the standings in the AL East and I thought I was looking at them in reverse order.  Gotta love early season baseball!
