At any given time, there are plenty of stories floating around the sports universe. Some are good, some are bad, some are entertaining and others just need to go away. Here is what I like right now:
Opening Day for Baseball: Is there anything better than a day at the ballpark? Baseball, sunshine, hot dogs, a coke, some nachos with beef, polish sausage with peppers and onions, 7th inning stretch. I love baseball season!
NCAA Final Four: I had three of the four teams right, but what a mess getting to them! Roy Williams takes on his old school, Kansas, while their current coach, Bill Self, finally has made it to his first Final Four. In the other matchup, two highly touted freshman, Derrick Rose and Kevin Love, will try to lead their respective teams to the Championship. One and done ala Carmelo Anthony?
Stephen Curry: This kid is simply amazing. 158 points in five career NCAA tournament games. Just announced he is coming back for his Junior season. I'll be interested in seeing what he does.
NFL Draft Approaching: Two full days of sitting on the couch and bad-mouthing every pick, gotta love that. Although, only the first two rounds are on the first day now. I think I might get depressed....at least until Day two starts up!
Now, here are a few things that I don't really like hearing/reading/talking about right now:
Indiana University Basketball: If there were another way to mess up this situation, they would have done it by now. Nobody wants to coach the team, the players don't want to be there, the administration is tripping over their own feet, and the fan base is restless.
My Cell Phone Company: Now, this isn't really sports related, unless you count the fact that they sponsor a certain racing series. But, my phone that I've had for 11 months died on me yesterday morning, causing me to be an hour late to work since I use the alarm on the phone to wake me. The phone company didn't care. I had to pay another $300 for a phone because I didn't buy their stupid insurance. Why should I have to buy insurance on something that is supposed to work in the first place? Don't they make enough on the bill every month to just give me another phone?
Pacman Jones: Why do the Cowboys want him so badly again? I thought teams were trying to stay away from the "character issues" these days? Guess they are, until they have to decide if they want the player or not.
McDonald's All-American Game: I think the time has come to get rid of this game. What a waste of time. If I want to see a bunch of selfish kids showboat and play very little-to-no defense, I'll go to the local park. Seriously, how many times can you get beat on a backdoor cut for an alley-oop? And these are supposed to be the elite players?
There you have it. What is a thumbs up or down for you these days?
