Finally, Eric Chavez has returned to the Oakland A's lineup.  After spending nine games in AAA Sacramento for his rehab assignment, Chavez was called up to Oakland for today's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.  With Chavez coming off the DL, Frank Thomas was placed on it with his leg injury that he suffered two nights ago.

I actually watched the game on MLB.TV today and Chavez looked pretty good at the plate.  He didn't look uncomfortable like some players do when they come back from an extended absence.  In his first plate appearance, Chavez ran the count to 3-1 and then proceeded to strike out.  His second at-bat saw him roll out to first base.  His last two at-bats were a tapper back to the pitcher and a very solidly hit line drive to right field, which was caught.  On the day he went 0-for-4, but looked good at the plate.  He didn't play in the field today, as he was the DH, but is expected to sometime this weekend.  With the season one-third of the way done, Chavez can really help this team the rest of the year.

Oakland dropped the game 12-0 today in a game that saw Jesse Litsch pretty much dominate the A's lineup.  Litsch is now 7-1 on the season and looks like Toronto has a future ace on their hands.  I sat next to his high school coach last summer in Tampa Bay and he said that he had exactly what it took to be successful as a major league pitcher.  I thought maybe that some of that talk was him being partial to his player.  I now see what he was talking about.

Oakland is now 29-25 and will travel to Texas for a three game series over the weekend.  Getting the series win against the Rangers is very important this weekend.
