In the last couple weeks, Oakland has been hit by the injury bug.  With that, a lot of roster changes are taking place.  Here is a list of who's coming and going:

Placed on 15 day DL

  • Mike Sweeney (May 31st)
  • Ryan Sweeney (May 31st)
  • Joey Devine (May 31st)
  • Frank Thomas (May 29th)
  • Andrew Brown (May 21st)
  • Donnie Murphy (May 20th)
Activated from DL

  • Eric Chavez
  • Kiko Calero
  • Chris Denorfia - optioned to Sacramento
Called Up to Oakland

  • Carlos Gonzalez
  • Travis Buck
  • Brad Ziegler
  • Lenny DiNardo
  • Dallas Braden
Optioned or Designated for Assignment

  • Lenny DiNardo
  • Kevin Melillo
With the arrivals of Eric Chavez, Travis Buck, and Carlos Gonzalez, Oakland is hoping for a surge in offense.  So far, the trio is 11-for-36 in the three games they have played together.  Gonzalez has 4 of those hits and they are all doubles.  Buck actually hit his first home run of the season yesterday against Texas.  Chavez is still shaking off the rust of facing Major League pitching, but I am certain he will start to come around pretty soon.

Oakland is currently 3 1/2 games out of first place with their 30-27 record.  They will be taking on the underachieving Detroit Tigers in Oakland the next three nights.  The pitching probables are as follows:

  • Monday:  Rich Harden vs Kenny Rogers
  • Tuesday:  Dana Eveland vs Dontrelle Willis
  • Wednesday:  Justin Duchscherer vs Nate Robertson
