That headline basically sums up my thoughts on the trade that took place today between the A's and Cubs.
If you did not see the "breaking news" the 1,000 times ESPN ran it, Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin were sent to Chicago for Sean Gallagher, Eric Patterson, Matt Murton, and a catcher that probably won't make it to the Majors for a few seasons, at least.
I don't mind that The Beanious made a trade for Rich Harden, but he could have gotten a bit more than this group. Patterson is a 25 year old rookie that plays second base. He might actually play everyday next season if Oakland decides to not keep Mark Ellis. Other than that, he is just a utility player with no value right now. Murton is a player that I like, but with Oakland having 79 outfielders on their roster, I'm not too sure he will get anymore playing time than he was getting in Chicago. Gallagher will probably be thrown into the rotation, because Dallas Braden and Lenny DiNardo are not getting it done when they pitch, but I don't expect much from him either.
Chicago is getting one great (when not injured) and one solid pitcher. They can really take the National League by the balls now. If Harden stays healthy, then I can definitely see a World Series title going to the Cubs this season.
Maybe I'm wrong about the players that Oakland is getting. I was wrong about the army of players acquired in the Dan Haren deal. I guess time will tell, but as of right now, I'm not a fan of the trade.
