Before last April's NFL Draft, Colt Brennan was quoted as saying, "Don't bet against me." By reading the quote, he was clearly talking to his doubters and everyone out there that said he was just a product of a pass happy system. Those four words have been the driving force behind Brennan's confidence and his preseason success.
After three preseason appearances, Brennan has completed 17 of 23 passes for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns. The most impressive part of his performance thus far is that he has been able to scramble effectively and find the open receivers down the field when needed. Throwing at a 74% completion rating so far indicates that his accuracy has been great and that he has been able to make the throws that an NFL quarterback needs to make to be successful. Brennan currently leads all rookie quarterbacks with a 146 rating.
I know that it is only the preseason and these numbers don't mean anything in the long run, but it does give you a glimpse into who can really play the game and who isn't on the NFL level. I think that Brennan's play this preseason has shown his doubters that he CAN play on this level and that he will stay around for a while. Is he going to be the best quarterback ever? Probably not, but if a guy can stick around the league for 7 to 10 years, then that is a pretty decent career.
Good luck this season to Colt Brennan.

Drew Brees was also once a system quarterback that couldn't make it in the pros. Certainly hard to count out Brennan until he is given a shot. Can anybody honestly say he's a full rung or three below the quality of Orten or Grossman in Chicago?
