After week one of the season, a lot is going on with the quarterbacks in the NFL. Most "experts" say that the NFL QB is the most important position in all of sports, so I've decided that I am going to keep tabs on the comings and goings and everything in between this season.
Here we go:
We can start with Brett Favre and his regular season debut with the New York Jets. Anyone impressed with the win? I'm really not impressed, because he has won time and time again in Green Bay. It was very weird seeing him in that uniform though. NYJ are now predicted to win the AFC East because of Tom Brady's injury. This is what the Jets wanted, Favre to lead them to the playoffs and hopefully the Super Bowl. We will see how things end. Any thoughts?
Speaking of Tom Brady...well, have fun spending extra time with your bastard kid and supermodel girlfriend. I think Matt Cassell just pooped his pants again at the thought of starting for the rest of the season. At least when he celebrates, he does it in style and doesn't give the same smug look that Brady and Darth Vader give. I hate that look. But, what if New England doesn't make the playoffs? Then they get another high draft pick and in the end, the rich get richer. Even when Tom Brady isn't playing, the Patriots somehow win in the end.
I am sitting here trying to think which QB was more impressive over the weekend. Was it Donovan McNabb? Maybe it was Jay Cutler or Drew Brees? No, I think I am going to give the inaugural "AIO QB of the Week" to Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers helped lead the Packers to a win against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, in front of millions of fans worldwide. Talk about performing under pressure. Not only that, but he did his first Lambeau Leap into the crowd, which tells me that even after all the crap the fans gave him in the preseason, he still knows how to win them over....just win baby!
Winning, that brings me to Jake Delhomme. After the San Diego Chargers scored what seemed to be the game winning touchdown with around 2:30 left in the game, everyone thought it was over, except the Panthers. Jake Delhomme led them down the field and were set up nicely for the win on the last play. After pump faking the crap out of the camera man and everyone watching, including the Chargers secondary, JD delivered a strike to the back of the end zone to Dante Rosario for the game winner with .00 on the clock! Meanwhile, Phil Rivers stood on the sideline with his jaw to the ground, but yet, his mouth was shut...just like a QB should keep it...quiet Phil, quiet.
JaMarcus Russell didn't look too bad against the Broncos, but would have looked a lot better had his receivers not dropped as many balls as they did...I'm talking to you former QB Ronald Curry! I'm not sure what too think of Russell yet, but I think this season will tell us a lot about him, since he didnt playing his rookie year much.
Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both started their NFL careers off the right way. Rookie QB's make a lot of mistakes, but if the team wins, then it's all good. Ryan actually threw a TD pass on his first NFL attempt. Has anyone else ever done that? Let me know!
Kurt Warner continues to be ageless in Arizona. Warner led the Cards to a win over the 49ers and their new starter, J.T. O'Sullivan. Not much can be said for either team, but Warner continues to prove he still has what it takes.
Having what it takes...Vince Young doesn't, Alex Smith gave it to JTOS, Kyle Orton did, Peyton Manning lost it for the week, Trent Edwards might have found it, Brodie Croyle had it knocked out of him, Jon Kitna forgot about it, and Jeff Garcia still has it, despite the team losing. Marc Bulger apparently didn't bring it with him, Matt Hasselbeck has it, but no WRs, Big Ben had so much that he sat out the 4th quarter, Chad Pennington's is still underrated, the verdict is still out on Tarvaris Jackson, ditto goes for David Garrard, and Matt Schaub shows it, then hides it for a while.
Tony Romo didn't lose though! Well, maybe he lost some blood after being made a QB sandwich by Cam Wimbley and Willie McGinest. Still, Romo stayed in and led the Cowboys to victory. The same can't be said for Derrek Anderson though. Do you think people are already calling for his replacement, Brady Quinn?
Well, I think that covers everyone for week one. We will see what happens during week 2.
