Last night, San Antonio kicked off their preseason schedule with a match up with the Houston Rockets.  While the Rockets came out victorious against a Spurs team that played without most of their normal starters and rotation, the Spurs got a better look at rookie George Hill.

Hill, the 26th pick in the past NBA draft, was impressive in his 17 minutes of playing time.  He recorded 6 points (3-for-6 shooting), 3 assists, and 5 steals.

In his time at IUPUI, Hill was a great shooter, as he finished with a field goal percentage of 54.5% and 45% from three point range this past season.  I don't think that he is going to have to adjust his shot to the NBA game as much as other rookies might.  He has a great idea on what a good shot is, so he should have be fairly effective on offense.

But, where I think that Hill will make the most impact is on defense.  He has very quick feet and averaged around 2 steals per game for his college career.  He also is one of the best rebounding guards that I've seen play in a long time, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few double digit rebound games from him this season.

With so many veterans on this Spurs' squad, Hill is going to have to fight for playing time.  Again, if he can show that he can be a defensive stopper on the perimeter like he showed last night, then I think we will be hearing his name plenty in the regular season.
