tinsley.jpgEarlier today, it was reported that Jamal Tinsley was traded from the Indiana Pacers to the Denver Nuggets for Chucky Atkins and Steven Hunter.  Now, a Nuggets executive is saying that isn't the case.

When Larry Bird was asked, he gave his usual answer of:

"We're not going to comment on trade rumors involving our players."

Of course he won't comment, he never does!  Why all the coyness Larry?  Why can't you just tell us that the deal fell through or that you had that offer on the table and you declined it?  You've already told us that you had a few teams interested in a deal, so why not just let us all in on the madness?

"It's erroneous," Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien said of the report in Friday's New York Post. "Did Dewey beat Truman?"

Well, it looks as though the New York Post (read, Peter Vescey) had better get their story straight before reporting such ground breaking news.  Seriously, when a Jamal Tinsley for Chucky Atkins trade happens, it is serious business

I didn't even like the trade to begin with.  I know they want to get him out of town as quick as possible and for as much as possible, but Chucky Atkins and Steven Hunter are not it.  Atkins is too old.  Yes, he is an experienced player, but with TJ Ford, Jarrett Jack, Travis Diener (who is out indefinitely with a foot injury), and Marquis Daniels capable of running the point, there is no need for him on the roster.  Hunter does add another body to the frontcourt, but the Pacers don't really need another fringe NBA player on the blocks.  With Maceo Baston (in his second tour with Indiana), Josh McRoberts, Troy Murphy (who will never play on the blocks again), Roy Hibbert, Rasho Nesterovic, and Jeff Foster, Indiana needs scoring down low.  Hunter is not the answer.

Back to the drawing board I suppose....or maybe this is all just a trick and the trade is actually going down!

That may be the understatement of the century. Hunter's a good guy, but he can't rebound and can only score if he gets the ball point blank with no one near him. He can run like the wind and blocks a few shots, though. I'm wondering if they'll just wind up buying him out. The Nuggets and Heat need PGs badly, but I don't see them ponying up anything significant for Tinsley.

I read that both Atkins and Hunter have two years left on their contracts, but they aren't fully guaranteed, so I would assume buy outs on both would happen IF the trade actually happens/happened.
