With another win in another close game, the Colts have improved their record to 5-4 on the season and have won two games in a row.  But, even with the win, I am left with a bittersweet taste in my mouth.  I finally saw it.  I saw the great Marvin Harrison turn into a normal guy that has had his age catch up to him quicker than he realized.

I don't want it to happen, but it does.  In every athlete's career, the end of the line has to come sometime.  Some guys hang on a year or two too long (Jordan), while other guys leave too soon (Barry Sanders).  I just hate seeing it come for Marvin.  During the game yesterday, I saw a guy just miss on two or three passes that, in any other year, he would have caught with ease.  Were they the best passes that Peyton Manning has ever thrown?  Nope, but Marvin has made Manning look good on those passes just as many times as Manning has made Marvin look good on other passes.

I hate to move on so fast, but when a player is starting to become a "liability" (I am using that term loosely), it is time to start putting someone in their place to make the plays.  By no means do I want to see Marvin on the sidelines, because he has been one of the best receivers in the NFL since he has come into the league and he should be able to go out on his own terms.

So how do you replace a Marvin Harrison?  I don't know, I haven't figured it out.  Reggie Wayne is a good replacement, but he isn't Marv.  He will never be Marv, but Reggie is a great player.  Anthony Gonzalez has the skills to be a good player in this league, but again, he isn't going to be #88 and he isn't going to be #87.

I think it is time to start working Pierre Garcon into the mix a bit more.  He is already playing on special teams and should start getting a few reps during game situations in the spread or even some reps in the slot.  I'm not saying he will be the next Marvin Harrison either, but I think when it is time for Marvin to retire, we need to have a third guy ready for some playing time.

With all of that said, it was a very tough game yesterday and we have now beat New England and Pittsburgh the last two weeks.  If we can beat San Diego next week, then I will confidently say that this team is back.  If they lose, then I will continue to be as confused as Forrest Gump was when Jenny finally gave him some.
