Do you ever wonder "what if" when thinking about the fortunes or misfortunes of your team?  I do.  It bugs me when I see a guy that my team should have gone after is doing well, while the guy they did get is currently stinking up the place worse than a bum's nut sack.  So, with that in mind, I started thinking about the worst drafts for each NBA team.  I figured I would just start at the top of the alphabet and work my way down.  I'm only going to go from the 90s through the present and I will only go with first round picks.  So, if you know of one that is before the 90s or one that was a total bust period, or just plain disagree with me, let me know!!

For the Hawks...I could have gone with several draft day blunders, but I think I am going to go with the debacle that was the 1999 draft.  Going in, the Hawks had the 17th, 20th, 21st, and 27th picks in the draft.  This class really could have helped push the Hawks franchise into a very successful run for years.  How did they fare?

Well, things started out good.  They traded their 21st pick and Mookie Blaylock to Golden State for the 10th pick, Duane Ferrell and Bimbo Coles.  The 10th pick turned out to be Jason Terry, who has had a pretty good career, just not all with the Hawks.  Things went down hill from there though...

With the 17th pick in the NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Cal Bowdler out of Old Dominion.  Bowdler played in 142 NBA games, which was enough to get his NBA pension, but he didn't do much.  BUST!

With the 20th pick in the NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Dion Glover out of Georgia Tech.  Now Glover was an underclassmen and was a decent pick based on potential, but he never really become much of a player.  His 2003-2004 season was off to a good start when he was averaging a career high 10ppg, but was then traded to Toronto where his career went to die.

With the 27th pick in the NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Jumaine Jones out of Georgia.  And there is a trade to announce.  The Atlanta Hawks have traded the rights to Jumaine Jones to the Philadelphia 76ers for a future first round pick.  Not bad, but who did that turn into?  I don't know.  I couldn't find that information, but the next three 1st round picks for the Hawks turned into Demarr Johnson (2000), Pau Gasol (2001 - traded for Shareef Abdur-Rahim), and Jamal Tinsley (2001 - traded to Indiana).

Overall, Atlanta has had quite a few terrible draft nights, but hit a couple nice picks with Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and Al Horford.
