From time to time, I get bored and I start tinkering with the trade machine on ESPN.com. Today is one of those days. With the few trades that went down this week and with speculation that more trades will happen before the trade deadline, I figured I would give it a go and see who is moving where!
Portland/Indiana/New York: With the Jamal Tinsley situation still in limbo and New York's situation with Starbury, I figured I would start off with these two in a three team trade. All three teams get salary cap relief of some kind.
- To Indiana: Martell Webster and David Lee
- To New York: Travis Outlaw, Raef LaFrentz, and Jamal Tinsley
- To Portland: Stephon Marbury and a 2nd round pick from both Indiana and New York.
New York is getting out of the Marbury situation and in turn will drop LaFrentz from the books after this season. Outlaw's contract will expire after NEXT season and Tinsley's will expire the season after that. I know New York is trying to save some cheese for 2010, Tinsley's contract wouldn't cripple them.
Indiana gets rid of the Tinsley contract and picks up Martell Webster who has four more seasons left on his contract after this year. That is fine with me, because Marquis Daniels' contract has a team option on it at the end of this season and they could let him walk and save extra money. David Lee is a high energy player that Indiana could sign at the end of the season, thus getting rid of Josh McRoberts!
Portland would only be getting cap relief out of this trade, but pick up more trading chips by way of the 2nd round picks from both teams. Portland has made a habit of stock-piling picks like they were gas rations.
Cleveland and Minnesota: With this trade, Cleveland gets yet another shooter to help LBJ battle the Celtics for Eastern Conference supremacy. Mike Miller gets out of Minnesota and Kevin McHale wets himself at the thought of grabbing Wally World as a one year rental. The only catch to this trade...Cleveland has to swallow Brian Cardinal's contract. It's not too ridiculous, but it is Brian Cardinal. Minnesota would also have to get a 1st rounder from Cleveland as well.
- To Minnesota: Wally Szczerbiak and 1st round pick
- To Cleveland: Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal
Well, that is all I have for now. I have too many clients in here right now, so I have to go help the incompetent people with their workouts...OH JOY!
