In a continuing series, I have been looking at the worst draft picks of all the NBA teams from 1990 through the present. I've made it from Atlanta through Golden State and now has come the time to give you my beloved Pacers' biggest debacle on draft night.
I would have presented you all with a picture of the player that I am about to unveil, but seeing as how irrelevant he was, there are no pictures that I could find in a massive google search. So...without further ado, I give you....
Scott Haskin, the 14th pick of the 1993 draft was supposed to be a player that would back-up and then eventually replace Rik Smits. I really can't even think of words to describe how hilarious that sounds now, but the front office was surely in love with the former Oregon State Beaver. Maybe it was the mascot they fell in love with and they took him because they were blinded by their passion for fur?!?
After only 27 games played in ONE season, Haskin called it quits. He did has some injury issues if I remember correctly, but I couldn't tell you what they were other than splinters in his butt from sitting on the bench and maybe carpel-tunnel from his head resting on his hand at the end of the bench every game.
He did have 15 blocks in the 27 games he played in and I did some math for that as well. He was averaging a block every 12 minutes of play, so he was averaging 4 blocks per 48 minutes, which would have been amazing to see. Alas, it was never meant to be.
