After Ron Winter's crew basically handed the game to the San Diego Chargers in OT on Saturday, the Colts now look ahead to what could be a very long offseason for them.  With so many questions about the coaching staff and the roster, we might not have it all cleared up until training camp comes back around.  So, let's take a look at some of the issues:

*  Does Tony Dungy stay or go?  My gut tells me that he is already retired in his mind.  He has wanted to retire for a few seasons now and he keeps coming back.  Bob Kravitz had an article in the Indianapolis Star that basically said it was time for Dungy to go.  I disagree with that.  I think he has earned the right to stay or go whenever he wants.  So, I guess get ready for a new coach in Indianapolis next season.

*  The Marvin Harrison decision.  He will account for over $13mil on the salary cap next season and I have a feeling that the Colts are not going to be willing to pay him that.  In a perfect world, Indianapolis would cut him and then sign him back at a lower salary, or he would even restructure his contract so his cap number would be lower.  I feel that he has played his last game for the Colts though.

*  Free agent decisions:

  • Jeff Saturday - I think he should come back, but not at an excessive salary.  Maybe a two year deal.
  • Kelvin Hayden - Would be a smart decision to bring him back next season.  Probably will fall victim to the normal routine of letting players go.  But, who do we have to replace him?
  • Josh Thomas - I think he can be let go without any major damages.
  • Matt Giordano - Very energetic player on special teams and makes a positive impact on the field.  He should be back.
  • Dominic Rhodes - Will probably be back.  Maybe Joseph Addai will be gone and a reunion of Edge James is in the making??
  • Keiwan Ratliff - I think he does just about as much good as he does bad, so maybe a lower figure contract would be reasonable.
  • Hunter Smith - I really don't see a reason for him to not be around.
  • Tyjuan Hagler - I don't see him coming back, unless we don't find anything attractive in the draft.
  • Darrell Reid - Please bring him back if not just for the bone-crushing hits on special teams.

*  What to do with Joseph Addai?  I'm not really sure.  I have a feeling that if he were to go somewhere else, then he will be a 2,000 yard back ala Marshall Faulk.  I don't think the Colts should give up on him right now, because he is still on his rookie contract AND our offensive line will be older and healthier (should be) going into next season.

I'm sure Bruce Paine will have some thoughts on these subjects as well, so jump over to Cobra Brigade and check them out.
