Now that my NFL season is officially over (unless Eli leads the Giants to the Super Bowl again), I want to focus on what the Colts should be focusing on for next April.
I found a website that has 110 different mock drafts on it and I am in mock heaven!
I went through 20 of them and I here is what I found:
- Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi (Listed on five sites) - From what I have read, Jerry is a stud on the D-Line. He was SEC Defensive Player of the Week four times this season and had 17 tackles for loss and six sacks.
- Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn (Listed on four sites) - 10 tackles for loss and two sacks for this kid that says, "I can play both defensive tackle and defensive end," Marks said. "I want to be a player like Albert Haynesworth in the NFL. I know it's going to take hard work and dedication, but I'm going to bring my hard hat every day. I know that now, it's not just a game. It's a job. And I'm ready for that." Well, sounds good to me.
- BJ Raji, DT, Boston College (Listed two times) - I was high on Raji last season, but he had some health issues and also off-field issues. I'd stay away from this kid. We already got burned on Ed Johnson this season.
- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska - Hadn't really heard of this kid until I saw him in action in Nebraska's bowl game. I was pretty impressed with him and the push he was getting against the run. Wouldn't be my first choice, but could be a quality player.
- DeMarcus Granger, DT, Oklahoma - Maybe he could be as good as the Granger that plays for the Pacers!?! Same thoughts on Granger as on Suh. Though a good showing in the BCS Championship against Florida could push his stock up quite a bit.
- Victor "Macho" Harris, CB, Va Tech - I don't want anything to do with any kid that comes from Virginia Tech unless it is Darren Evans in a couple seasons.
- DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt - I heard this kid talk to the sideline reporter after Vanderbilt's bowl game and he certainly gave me the impression that he was a "me first" kind of player. It's nice to have confidence in your abilities, but I could do without his attitude.
- Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest - He doesn't really strike me as a first round pick, but I would gladly take him in the 2nd or 3rd round.
- James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State - I actually wouldn't mind picking an ILB this year. I think that is one of our main weaknesses and he could help fix that issue.
- Max Unger, C, Oregon - I would have been pretty excited about this pick if we hadn't taken Mike Pollack, Steve Justice, and Jamey Richards in the past draft. I think Unger would have been a very good replacement for Jeff Saturday eventually. Of course, if the Colts don't bring Saturday back, a guy like Unger could be on the radar.
- Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa - I'm not sure what the Colts will do with Dom Rhodes or Joseph Addai, so I can't fully say that Greene is a smart pick here. He probably wouldn't even be around by the time the Colts pick anyway.
- Percy Harvin, WR, Florida - I've heard from a pretty credible source that the WR corps for the Colts could have a pretty big shakeup this offseason. I won't get into the specifics, but if it did happen, the Colts probably wouldn't be looking for a WR at all in this draft, unless it is one for special teams.
Overall, I think defense has to be the main target. Every pick should be a defensive player, unless there is an offensive player that we can absolutely not pass on (see Randy Moss, Adrian Peterson, etc). I wonder how the Colts would have done if they had picked Paul Posluszny and Marcus Thomas a couple seasons ago....hmmm

From what I've heard, I don't think a WR will need to be taken in this draft. That is, if what I've heard is true!
what have you all heard are we going into free agency to get a receiver?
Yes, but it is just mainly two specific names that are wanting to come to Indy. One is a huge possibility and the other probably not, because of their contract wants.
I can't give a name right now because I said that I wouldn't just yet.
I suppose I could drop a hint or two. One plays in orange and black and the other in red and white. There you go...run with it.
With Ron Meeks now leaving, it will be crucial to see who will be the defensive coordinator now before you can take a guess as to the pick. What if they totally changed up the defense and became a 3-4 ? A bit extreme, yes, but stranger things have happened. However, stay with the 4-3 and get bigger and bulkier.........less speed oriented.........then it can change who is on the draft board.
It really doesn't matter if they switch to a 3-4 or stay in the 4-3, because they still need a DT to plug up the middle. If they do switch to a 3-4, then that need is even greater.
I think it would be interesting to see what this team could do in a 3-4 scheme. They could honestly put Raheem Brock back at one end opposite of Freeney and then use Marcus Howard and Robert Mathis like the Chargers use Shaun Phillips. Throw Freddy Keiaho and Gary Brackett in the middle and the defense would seem to be a little more exciting, but we would still need that DT there in the middle.
Ok, im very irratated by how the guy said Indy doesnt need a WR. Marvins getting old, gonzalez wont be good as a outlet wideout, and wayne is our only guy at the moment, Indy should trade up for Hakkem Knicks, dude is a beast, or even Jeremy Maclin. Or if they trade up for a defensive player, they should get Maluaga. He's a clone of Polumalu but at linebacker. He would give excitment to Indys defense and is a fantastic run stopper.
Can you tell us the names of the two WRs the Colts are looking at? Please?
It really doesn't matter now, because neither WR is going to be coming since we gave Hayden all that money.
The first was Housh and he had said that he would take a pay cut to come to Indy. Then, the whole Philly scenario came into play and his price jumped quite a bit higher. Too high for us.
The second was Anquan Boldin and the stopping factors were the amount of money he wanted per year and the guaranteed money he wanted. Too rich for Indy, so again, a no go.
So, like Bruce Paine had stated earlier, we will probably be going after a WR in the draft and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the first round now. Who? I'd say either DHB from Maryland or Percy Harvin. Heyward-Bey ran the fastest 40 at the combine I do believe and he jumped himself into the late first round with that run. Right around the Colts pick.

Don't think they will spend linebacker or tackle money. Late first or second round I hope for Hakeem Nicks WR UNC. Great route running, top flight ball skills, big target for an aging QB that likes an outlet.
