I tried, but I just couldn't do it. I forced myself to sit through the first half of the All-Star game and vowed to make it through the second half, but in the end, I just wasn't up for it. The All-Star game has turned into one of the most boring events in all of sports. I might even rank it up there with heavyweight boxing.
About the only thing that I enjoy watching during the All-Star weekend is the three-point shootout. I know what to expect and the rules don't change. Plus, I think every person that has ever shot a basketball has held their own shootout either with friends or on their own.
Nate Robinson was given a boost (by himself) and "won" the slam dunk title...lame. Dwight Howard should have won it hands down, again. What's up with having to use another player in your dunk? There is nothing All-Starish about having Sonny Weems throw a pass from 25 rows up. If you want to impress me, maybe get some of those Make-A-Wish kids they kept talking about to throw an alley-oop. Or, maybe get contestants out of the stands to do dunks on a Jordan Jammer and then have the NBA players emmulate those dunks. If you miss, you're out. I've known my fair share of Jordan Jammer Hall of Famers.
To top it all off, Shaq and Kobe split the MVP??? Chris Paul's near triple-double wasn't MVP enough for the voters? I'm glad Mo Williams cried until he got picked as an alternate...and then proceeded to shoot everytime he touched the ball...might be my favorite All-Star game moment of all time!
