As the NBA trade deadline approaches, teams are going to be making some deals that either create future cap space or to make a push for the playoffs. The Pacers should make a deal or two to push for the playoffs.
Here is what I am proposing:
1) Marquis Daniels, Troy Murphy and 2009 1st round pick to Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire. The likelihood of this happening is sitting at 0%, but I think it would be a smart trade for both teams. Phoenix has gone away from the running style of offense with Shaqavitch sitting in the middle of the paint. Murphy gives them a big that doesn't have to roam the paint to be effective and he still hits the boards. Daniels has a team option at the end of the season, so the Suns could decline that option and save about 7mil next season on his contract. They would also save between 5 and 6mil just on the contract difference of Murphy and Stoudemire. The Pacers get Amare, enough said.
2) Marquis Daniels, Jamal Tinsley and future 2nd round pick to OKC for Earl Watson and Chris Wilcox. This trade scenario is a little more realistic than the previous one, but I'm not sure what OKC is going to do around the deadline. Watson was a name that came up earlier this season in trade rumors and Wilcox isn't getting much love from Scotty Brooks, so this could happen. Again, Daniels has that team option for next season, so OKC could rid themselves of that contract and in the end, they would have Tinsley and the 2nd round pick. The Pacers get an athletic big man and a point guard for next season. With Jarrett Jack on the last year of his deal, the Pacers could easily let him go and just run with TJ Ford and Watson at the point.
3) Jamal Tinsley, Rasho Nesterovic, and Maceo Baston to Miami for Shawn Marion. Miami is trying to free up some cash to possibly sign Carlos Boozer at the end of this season, but with his recent health issues, Miami might be more inclined to hold off. This trade frees up some cash for Miami next year, but they also grab Tinsley who would be a very solid back up point guard for them. Marion brings some much needed athleticism to the Indiana front court.
