It's Wednesday today and that means one thing to me; Tournament Eve! Yesterday, I threw my Midwest and West Region thoughts at you and today I am going to finish with the East and the South Region.
Best First Round Games: UCLA vs VCU and Texas vs Minnesota. Anthony Grant has one of the best PGs in college basketball in Eric Maynor. VCU is no stranger to pulling off the upset, so this one should be a fun game. However, I see UCLA coming out on top.
Tubby Smith left Kentucky and went to Minnesota. My initial thought when he did that was, "Tubby has lost his damn mind!" But, the joke is on me, Minnesota is back in the NCAA tournament and they play a Texas team that is about as consistent as the stock market these days. I think Minny pulls out the win.
Final Four Pick: UCLA. I know, they are a six seed, but they have the veteran leadership at the point, they have a very good coach, and they have athleticism for days. If seeding holds true, they will have to face Villanova, Duke, and Pittsburgh to get to the Final Four. I think they can handle the journey. Besides, do you really see Duke or Pittsburgh in the Final Four?
Possible Sleepers: VCU and Minnesota. If VCU pulls off the upset of UCLA, I think they could very well take out Villanova in the second round and head to the Sweet 16. If that happens, expect Anthony Grant to start getting some major coaching job opportunities. Hello Arizona, meet Anthony Grant!
Again, Tubby Smith has Minny back in the tourney and with his infinite amount of experience and the way the Golden Gophers play, I wouldn't be surprised to see them advancing into the Sweet 16.
