So the Kings aren't the best team in the NBA, but still, it was a road win, something the Pacers have struggled with this season.
With the win, the Pacers have put themselves at just two games behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the 8th seed in the East. This season continues to get just a little more weird with each passing game.
Instead of focusing on the box score from last night, I want to take a look at someone that could help the Pacers out for next season...Rashad McCants.
McCants has had an up and down season and after falling out of favor in Minnesota, he was shipped to Sacramento, where he sat on the bench for a few games before finally getting some steady action in the past three.
He is only averaging nine points per game this season, but that is partly due to his lack of minutes. In games that he plays 20 minutes or more (18 times this season) he has averaged 27 minutes and 14 points per contest. He has demonstrated that he can score and he can score in bunches, but he has to be able to do the extra things on the court to get those minutes.
Some point to his defense as his main weakness. Well, show me more than 20 NBA players that actually take pride in their defense and I'll say you have a valid point. As I mentioned before, if he gets playing time, the results will show up. In those 18 games that he has played more than 20 minutes per, he has also averaged just over one steal in those games. I know defense is about more than steals and blocks, but they do show that a player is at least around the ball for defense.
So, Rashad, when you hit free agency this summer, give old Larry Bird a call and express to him your interest in coming to play for the Pacers for the next three years or so. Oh, and don't expect more than a MLE deal either.
