With the Utah Jazz having won 11 games in a row coming into the game, the Pacers were looking to continue their aggressive play and stop that win streak. That did not happen though.
The game was close for the first three quarters of play, with Indiana down just two points heading into the fourth quarter. That is when Utah decided to step on the gas and Indiana was left trying to figure out what gear they were in.
With the game tied at 90, the Jazz went on a 16-4 run that decided the game. Sloppy play, tough defense by Utah, and missed shots by Indiana all were contributing factors into the winning run for the Jazz.
This game really came down to Utah getting eight more shots than Indiana and hitting five of them. The Pacers won the rebounding edge 43 to 41, but it was Utah's defense that proved to be the difference maker in the end. The Jazz recorded 16 steals on the night, five each from Ronnie Brewer and Deron Williams. When your starting backcourt can get you 10 steals, your team's chances of winning increase tremendously. The constant ball pressure, bad decision making, and minimal passing lanes all led to Indiana's 22 turnovers on the night.
I feel that even with the turnovers and Utah's defense, this game was a lot closer than the final score. As I mentioned before, that final run by Utah was the difference maker in this one. These late game runs have done in the Pacers all season long and it is really perplexing to me to see it game in and game out.
Indiana is now 28-38 and Danny Granger will be coming back either Friday night or on Sunday, so hopefully the team can make a push for that 8th playoff spot. Indiana is now 6-4 without Granger in the lineup.
