Well, color me relieved!  Tim Floyd turned down the coaching vacancy for the Arizona Wildcats yesterday, ending my rapidly building ulcer.  This is good for two reasons.

  1. Arizona doesn't have to worry about possible sanctions placed on them from the OJ Mayo scandal.
  2. It's Tim Floyd!!

I would assume that the coaching search will slow down a little, that way a hasty decision is not made.  I've made my own list of candidates for the job as of now - it is a short list:

  • Jeff Capel - was believed to be the #1 candidate before this Floyd mess.
  • Scott Drew - Memphis wants him, but Arizona should make a push for him, because he can recruit the South, the West, and is one of the best international recruiters in college.
  • Jamie Dixon - I doubt he will leave Pitt to rebuild, but it would put him closer to home (Los Angeles).
  • Sean Miller - Young coach that could put a shot of excitement back into this program.  What he has built at Xavier is a great selling point.

If they do not get one of these guys, or Mark Few (I doubt he will leave), then the job should be left in the hands of Russ Pennell.  The players played for him and respected him.  AND, believe it or not, he did a pretty solid job of coaching.

I will continue to wait and see what happens.
