It is now official. The top three players for Arizona will be heading into the NBA draft this year. Juniors Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill, and Nic Wise will all be waiting to see what their NBA futures hold for them.
Budinger and Hill both hired agents, so their college days are over with regardless of when and where they are drafted. Wise did not hire an agent, which is smart on his part, because if he has bad workouts or does not get the type of feedback that he would like, then he can return to Tucson and be the team leader that Sean Miller will so desperately need this next season.
I can't say I'm surprised that they all left. Budinger is constantly dogged for his "lack of passion", but I just think he is a laidback kind of guy. He is a California beach kid that played volleyball before basketball brought him to Arizona. He isn't going to change into some loudmouth, rah-rah kind of guy. His game does his talking for him and what he did in the tournament spoke volumes for him.
Jordan Hill has been very good in the post for the Wildcats, but he is still learning the game. Averaging a double double is no small feat though, especially when adding two blocks a game to that. Hill will need to get stronger and smarter at the next level. He can be an impact player in a couple years I think, but whoever drafts him will need to be patient and develop his very raw skills.
Wise is definitely a team leader. He can direct the traffic, penetrate, and knock down the open perimeter shots. His size is going to be what holds him back. If he were 6'2 or 6'3 instead of 5'9, then he would be a first round pick for sure this year. I don't really see what another year in college is going to do for him, because he isn't going to grow anymore. Hopefully he will have some good workouts and someone will give him a guarantee at the end of the first round.
