Well, the Pacers ended up with the 13th pick, just like the percentages said they would.  Now the questions are "Who is going to be available?" and "Who will the Pacers take?"

There are some very interesting things that came out of this lottery.

  • With the Clippers getting the first pick, I'd look for guys like Zach Randolph, Marcus Camby, Baron Davis, and Chris Kaman to be on the trade block.  The three bigs will be more available than Davis will be, but I wouldn't think that he is untouchable, especially if the Clippers fall in love with Ricky Rubio to run the team.
  • If Blake Griffin is taken at number one, do the Memphis Grizzlies take Rubio at two with Mike Conley running the point?  I don't see that happening, so then the Grizzlies would either look to Hasheem Thabeet or Jordan Hill.  I'd probably have to say Thabeet though.
  • After the first two picks, whoever is leftover of Thabeet and Rubio will be taken at third.  This then leaves the rest of the draft wide open and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of teams trying to trade back or just trade out all together.

That brings me to the Pacers and their situation.  Point guard and a scorer in the post are the two biggest needs for Indiana this year.  Chad Ford currently has Jonny Flynn as the guy the Pacers will take at 13, but I think Eric Maynor fits the team's style better.  Maynor is more mature and that experience will help in leading the team in the future.  Not knocking Flynn at all, but I'd just prefer Maynor.

For a post scorer, I have previously mentioned possibly trading away this pick for a post scorer.  I was looking at the possiblity of grabbing someone like Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, or even Amare Stoudemire.  Keep in mind, I am talking about sending the 13th pick the the Clippers in both of those deals and possibly this pick and next years first to Phoenix for Amare.  Would they happen?  Who knows these days.

If the Pacers stand firm with the pick, I would like to see Eric Maynor in the first round and someone like Jeff Pendergraph in the second round.  He isn't a superstar, but he could develop into a guy like David West with some hard work and good coaching.
