Now that the second round of the playoffs has gotten underway, I figured I would start looking at the Pacers' roster. I wanted to start with the Centers, because that seems to be the biggest issue going into the Draft and Free Agency.
Free Agents at Position:
- Rasho Nesterovic - I really like his game and his ability to pass out of the post, but it seems he fell out of favor with what the organization was trying to do this season. I don't look for him to return this summer.
Under Contract at Position:
- Jeff Foster - signed a new contract last season and never really produced like he has in the past. His rebounding numbers were down from the last few seasons, but still played the same amount of minutes. Should be a prime candidate for trade.
- Roy Hibbert - started 42 games his rookie season, but only averaged 14 minutes per game. Started to get a handle on the NBA's level of physical play, but still has a lot to learn on the defensive end of the game. Should be the starter going into next season.
Possible Draft Picks at Position:
I would say Hasheem Thabeet, but I don't see him falling to the Pacers and I don't see them getting lucky enough to get that high in the lottery. Other than Thabeet, I don't see any true centers that are worth the pick in the first round.
Possible Free Agents at Position:
- Zaza Pachulia
- Theo Ratliff
- Mehmet Okur
I don't really expect Okur to be a guy that the Pacers can afford, but if some salary was trimmed, then he could be a target.
Possible Trade Targets:
- Tyson Chandler
- Chris Kaman
- Marcus Camby
With Chandler's trade deadline deal rescinded due to a failed physical, I could see the Hornets putting him back on the block this summer.
The Clippers are probably going to be looking to move some salaries this summer in order to get younger and cheaper. Kaman and/or Camby could be had, with Camby being the more likely candidate to be moved.
