Here we are at pick number seven in the draft and the Golden State Warriors are on the clock. They have a ton of athleticism, but nobody to really lead them. Is this the draft that they get a solid point guard to run them into the playoffs?
Let's take a look inside...

2009 Free Agents
- Rob Kurz (Restricted)
- C.J. Watson (Restricted)
- Jamal Crawford (Early Termination Option - Unrestricted)
I really don't see the Warriors keeping Kurz or Watson. Don Nelson has shown he can just plug in anybody and make the system work. Crawford might stay, but who knows. I'll assume he isn't just for the purpose of this post.
Depth Chart (Pre-Draft)
PG: Monta Ellis
SG: Stephen Jackson - Anthony Morrow - Marco Belinelli
SF: Corey Maggette - Kelenna Azubuike
PF: Anthony Randolph - Brandon Wright - Jermareo Davidson
C: Andris Biedrins - Ronny Turiaf
Draft Picks (Mock Picks)
- 7th overall - Jonny Flynn, PG, Syracuse - By taking Flynn here, the Warriors are going to continue their run-n-gun ways. By adding Flynn, this moves Monta Ellis to the two guard spot and puts Jackson at the three with Maggette coming off the bench. Flynn could get a lot of open looks in this offense.
Depth Chart (Post Draft)
PG: Jonny Flynn - Monta Ellis - Anthony Morrow
SG: Monta Ellis - Kelenna Azubuike - Marco Belinelli
SF: Stephen Jackson - Corey Maggette - Kelenna Azubuike
PF: Anthony Randolph - Brandon Wright - Jermareo Davidson
C: Andris Biedrins - Ronny Turiaf
Players on Trade Block
- Corey Maggette
Honestly, if I was the GM, I would try to trade Ronny Turiaf, because he doesn't fit the style that the Warriors play. However, Maggette will be the name that most brought up in trades. Azubuike could be one as well since his contract expires after the season.
Final Analysis
Don Nelson has a roster full of shooters and slashers. That would probably work better in the East than in the West, but he got them to the playoffs a couple seasons ago by outscoring everyone. I think this team will be exciting, but miss the playoffs again this season.
Comments
So Riley got lucky and was able to select Curry for the PG spot. Now Nelson wants to dismantle the team again and give away a great center in Biedrens, and a future star in Curry to get a problem child in PF Stoudemire. The experiment won't work as all of Nelly's other hair brained schemes have not, and again the Warriors future will be put back 3-5 years while another team makes stars and the playoffs on the backs of our draft picks. We were on the right track with Mullin, sure there were some blunders along the way, but there was progress being made. Nelly couldn't stand not being the center of attention and in the control position, so he stabbed his so called friend in the back, and so here we go again with the Stoud-o-bust as Nelly tries to become the all time winingest coach!

That's like a roster from NBA Jams! Horrendous.
