I consider myself a pretty lucky person to be able to spend a lot of time following sports. It is my passion in life. Part of my passion, is rooting for the Indianapolis Colts.
One of my favorite Colts' players is second year wideout, Pierre Garcon. I was a pretty big fan boy of his coming out of college and I was pretty pumped when the Colts drafted him, so imagine how thrilled I was when I was able to talk with him on the phone recently for an interview.
PG85 is in a battle for the Colts' third receiver spot with Austin Collie this preseason. I think that Garcon will come out on top.
Now, I admit, I'm not as big of an X's and O's guy as the master of disaster, Bruce Paine, so I wanted to stick with what I know, talking to people. I wanted to bring out who he is more as a person than the football player. Most of the questions are geared toward football, but again, not the X's and O's stuff.
Follow me inside for the interview....

Getting To Know Pierre

Favorite Game - Wii Golf, but admits that he isn't so good at it right now.
What music is Pierre listening to - Lil Wayne, Plies, mostly down south artists, but will listen to anybody.
Eager volunteer during the season as well as the offseason - He ran two of his own camps this Summer as well as helped out with other camps. During the season, you will often find him volunteering his time after practice in the local community.
Why does he enjoy giving back - "It is just a way to help the kids have a good time. They enjoy it. It's basically for the kids to have fun. I attended camps as a kid and just want to help give back."
Draft day thoughts - "I was happy. Didn't matter where I went, I was just so happy. It was a good day, a very good day."
The Meat and Potatoes
My questions will be in BOLD and Pierre's responses will be in ITALICS.
* What was it like to be coached by Coach Dungy?
It was a great opportunity, he's a real nice guy and a great coach. He didn't yell much, but he expected you to know what to do and to be prepared for your job. I enjoyed it.
* What was training camp like?
The hardest part was learning the playbook. It is best to learn as soon as possible. They know it's hard, but they learn who learns faster and that allows guys the opportunity to play more.
* What are the big differences between the college and pro game?
Speed, speed, speed. Bigger, stronger, faster. Basically, it is a lot quicker than the college game. Everyone is trying to make a play at the same time. Not a lot of opportunities to make plays, so you gotta make them when you can.
* Who was the toughest practice opponent you had to face?
Marlin Jackson. I probably go up against him the most in practice.
* How about in a game?
(Laughs) Well, I haven't had too many plays on the field yet, so I'll have to get back to you on that one.
* What are your expectations as a player?
Being on the field, making plays - especially when they count and when we need them. Other than that, I just want us to make the Playoffs and see how we do.
* Speaking of the Playoffs, what were your feelings after the loss to San Diego last year?
I couldn't believe we lost. I was really upset. Disappointed, frustrated. They just had more luck that day. Both teams were great, we just had to make more plays.
* What kind of role do you hope to fill on the team?
I'll do anything. Wide receiver, special teams - I'll make some tackles. I enjoy making tackles on special teams.
* What kind of workouts are you doing during the offseason?
I do some endurance running, getting my wind up, so I can play for a while. I don't do anything too crazy. I don't want to get hurt before the season.
Most of my tough workouts are with the team then when I'm back home, I'll workout with a couple of my friends.
* What were some obstacles of going to a smaller school?
There weren't too many obstacles in my eyes. You just have to keep making plays and hopefully someone will see you. You have to just keep doing your best.
* How do you think you would have done at a bigger school?
I think I could have excelled at the D1 level, but there was more opportunity at a smaller school. I didn't have the grades to go to some of the schools I wanted to go to, so I had to look at other places.
Quick Hitters
* Hall of Fame or Super Bowl Rings?
(Laughing) How many rings are we talking about? I think I'd take the Super Bowl Rings.
* Rookie hazing - how bad was it?
We didn't do that much. Only on the weekends - I had to get wings for the guys. It wasn't too bad.
* What position would you like to play if you weren't a receiver?
Running back - for sure - running back.
* How do you like the traveling aspect of the game?
It's great, I have no problems with it. We usually get in the day before the game and will get about four or five hours to do whatever. I enjoy it.
* Favorite place to travel?
San Diego - hands down
* Least favorite?
No comment (laughs)
* OK, last one, if you could play another sport professionally, what would it be?
Soccer. I can't shoot, so I couldn't play basketball. I can grab rebounds though. I have my on and off days shooting.
Well, there you have it folks, that is Pierre Garcon in a nutshell. There are a ton of other things I'd love to ask and get his feedback on, but with his schedule, I didn't want to take up too much of his time. Hopefully I can get another interview with PG85 during the season.
Don't forget to take a look at his website www.pierregarconlive.com
Thanks again to Pierre Garcon for taking the time out of his schedule to grant a big fan the opportunity to take a glimpse into the life of a professional football player.

Thanks Cobra. We talked for about an hour on the phone and two things stood out to me. 1) He is the kind of person that easily attracts people with his personality. Very laidback and humble.
2) He isn't used to talking about himself much! I had to pull some answers out of him at times!
Hopefully we will talk again during the season. I had pitched the idea of a weekly paragraph or two from him about the games, so we will see.

Very well done! I didn't know much about PG prior to the interview but he seems like a good guy.
If you interview him again....pre-game superstitions?
