I recently went through some trade options that the Pacers should explore and one of them involved the acquisition of Tracy McGrady.  I stated that the Rockets were not willing to play McGrady as much as he wanted and thus a trade would be reasonable.  Naturally, I'd prefer if the Pacers would trade for T-Mac, because it would allow Indiana to get rid of a bad contract or two and take on a lot of expiring money.  Plus, McGrady wants to prove his worth before he hits the free agent market next summer and with Danny Granger out for a few more weeks, the Pacers would actually benefit from having another scorer on the court.  However, I fear that the Pacers won't come close to even putting out a feeler, so I will look at a couple trades that could benefit the Rockets...and McGrady.

New York, New York - Big City of Dreams

The Knicks need a marquee player and T-Mac would give them that, for at least the rest of the season....or until he gets injured again.  The Knicks could use this as an opportunity to get rid of a bad contract or two in time for next summer.

  • Knicks get Tracy McGrady
  • Rockets get Nate Robinson, Eddy Curry, and Jared Jeffries or Chris Duhon

The Knicks apparently are out of love with Robinson, so he is a no-brainer to throw in this deal.  Curry and Duhon both have contracts expiring at the end of the season, so they would be nice trade pieces, so I'd look for the Knicks to throw in Jeffries and keep Duhon on their books.

The Rockets would get Robinson and Curry's expiring salaries and Jeffries would be around for one more year.  Robinson could add to the solid core of back court players for Houston though.

Everyone Loves a Threesome

I've heard a few rumors that Washington would be willing to offer up Gilbert Arenas for TMac and I've heard that the Kings might make Kevin Martin available, so I looked at a three team trade with the Kings, Wizards, and Rockets:

  • Washington gets McGrady
  • Kings get Gilbert Arenas and Jermaine Taylor
  • Rockets get Kevin Martin, Mike James, and Andres Nocioni

Monetarily this works for all involved and it also gives Houston a couple of players to add to the rotation for a few seasons.  Martin is a proven scorer and Nocioni is a very nice bench player.  The Kings grab a couple of scorers, but one really big contract.  The Wizards get rid of Arenas' contract only to absorb T-Mac's, but only for this season.
