Last night, the Colts selected Jerry Hughes, DE, from TCU with the 31st pick in the draft. A strong pick that will produce for the team.
When the 28th pick was being announced, I got a text stating that the Colts were looking at O-Line help and then a bit of panic began to sneak in. There wasn't an OL prospect on the board that was going to help this team out.
At pick 29, I got another text. This time, the Colts were targeting Taylor Mays now. Excitement rushed over me. I texted Dad and told him that Mays is basically a 6'4 Bob Sanders in terms of his play. "Let's just hope he stays healthy then." CRAP!
The top two favorites at LB (for me) were Sergio Kindle and Jerry Hughes. A bit surprised Kindle was not taken in the first round at all though.
When Jerry Hughes was called, it was a sigh of relief. Texts started pouring in with overwhelming positive reactions. The Colts hit a home run with this pick. A good value pick that will be a very welcome rotational player to Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. With Raheem Brock released, a big hole was created in the rotation. Good to see that hole filled up.
Here is what ESPN.com has to say on the pick of Hughes:

What he brings: Hughes is a player who has a non-stop motor. He boasts great quickness, body control and the ability to bend and accelerate to close on quarterbacks. He also shows an array of pass-rush moves which keeps offensive tackles on their toes to both the inside and outside. He had a very productive, durable career. Hughes fits perfectly at the NFL level as an undersized pass-rush specialist off the edge.Day one is in the books. Let's see what Day two has to bring us!
